Individually, Mimi Xu is well known for her DJ sets, catwalk soundtracks, fashion film scores, and has created immersive performance pieces for The Royal Academy of Arts, The Barbican, Meltdown Festival and The Gagosian Gallery. She also just finished a feature film score starring Isabel Huppert, set for release in 2022. MAGUIRE released her second solo EP ‘Fantaisies’ produced by Liam Howe (Lana Del Rey, FKA Twigs) in 2021 on indie label SevenFourSevenSix, and has performed with the likes of RY X, Soko & Ghostpoet.

They premiered their debut album ‘An Entropic Cycle’ at Houghton Festival, and released it in March 2020. This was featured on Spotify editorial playlist ‘The Loft’ and DFA’s Archived Selection playlist. They followed this with a Remix EP featuring remixes from Ghost Culture (Daniel Avery, Kelly Lee Owens, Falle Nioke), Son of Philip and Bobby. Their track ‘Delighted To Be Free’ was part of the ‘Ambient Layers’ compilation on K7! Records and was featured on Spotify's 'Electronic X' playlist.

In 2021 they released their protest club track METACURSE in collaboration with Ghost Culture which featured on New Music Friday.
Their most recent release – ‘A Strange Time EP’ – came out in March 2022 and featured on Apple Music's Electronic Daily and Matt Wilkinson's show.

Awkward Moments represent a unique voice in contemporary and immersive performative art. Their live shows always inhabit the edginess of experimental art presentations, but are firmly rooted on the solid foundations of their multifold crafts ranging from music composition, scoring, narratives, live performance, costuming, videography and projection content.
They premiered their new multimedia performance ‘A Strange Time’ at Houghton Festival 2022, performed at HÖR Berlin, and host an ongoing radio show on OpenLab Radio.

They are currently finishing their second album ‘A Strange Odyssey’ with guest co-producers such as Al Doyle (Hot Chip, LCD Sound System) and Ghost Culture (Daniel Avery, Kelly Lee Owens, Falle Nioke), and Liam Howe (Sneaker Pimps, FKA Twigs, Lana Del Rey).
They are also working on a special remix project of ‘Life On Venus’ by the likes of – Ewan Pearson, Craig Richards, Frank Wiedemann, Sasha, Trey Mirror & Hans Berg to name a few – that will become part of a limited edition vinyl art project, along with a performance piece and accompanying artwork and video by Norbert Schoerner; raising questions surrounding the male gaze and queer identity.

They host a regular club night in London called ‘A Strange Night’ – a cultural platform for good vibes – that promotes community and diversity in these divisive times, where they raise money for charities close to their hearts, and experiment with club friendly satellite performances. The events have seen DJ sets from Benji B, Joe Goddard, James Massiah, Jack Peñate, Shay Malt (Adonis), Bobby, Craig Richards, Ivan Smagghe and Peter Adjaye, and live performances from Tom Rasmussen, Daria Blum, Nah Eeto & Laima.
They will be supporting Mykki Blanco on their UK tour in December 2022 starting with the London show at Heaven on 29th November.
Awkward Moments are the innovative modern voice of IDM & Dark Pop, channelling contemporaries like Lafawndah, Yaeji, Overmono, Caterina Barbieri, Octa Octa, Logic1000, System Olympia and Smerz.
