Sunda Arc is a live electronic project from Norwich and London (UK), currently unveiling a series of singles on the experimental/bass-forward label Anti Space Records (ANTISPACE). Built around the brother-duo of Nick and Jordan Smart (who also comprise two-thirds of the jazz-influenced trio Mammal Hands), Sunda Arc forges a distinctive nexus between high-end electronic production, live instrumentation, and evocative, cinematic textures.

Sunda Arc’s sound is rooted in the collision of analogue and digital, drawing from techno, electronica, neo-classical, post-rock, and ambient influences. Their arrangements tend to layer immersive synthesiser atmospheres, drum programming, and expressive acoustic voices (flute, woodwinds, subtle piano motifs) to create meditative, charged soundscapes. In their recent ANTISPACE release Sunda Arc 002, they lean into this hybrid approach: “meditative rhythms and the haunting tones of instruments like the duduk and ney create a deep, immersive listening experience.” Their earlier releases (EP Flicker, 2018; full-length Tides, 2020) laid the foundation for their fusion of electronics and organic textures, while Night Lands (2022) pushed further into sprawling atmospherics and textures.

Under ANTISPACE, Sunda Arc is rolling out a series of singles (Sunda Arc 001, Sunda Arc 002) that both crystallise and expand their core. These singles are focused on harder-hitting, beat-driven material, revealing different facets of their sound in compact, strong doses. Their connection with ANTISPACE situates them in a milieu of boundary-pushing, cutting-edge electronic music. As part of their current rollout, Sunda Arc has participated in a live video series for Electronic Sound Magazine, recording new tracks and performances in the publication’s in-house studio. Their ESLS018 is featured under Electronic Sound’s “Live Sessions” series, where they blend electronic textures with woodwinds in compelling live takes. These video performances emphasise Sunda Arc’s ability to translate their musical ideas into raw, expressive live energy—creating spontaneous interplay between electronic and acoustic elements. Sunda Arc already have a strong live reputation. Their performances have spanned venues and festivals such as AB Brussels, Blue Dot Festival, The Roundhouse, Jazz Café, Reworks Festival, CondeDuque Madrid—and they’ve supported GoGo Penguin at the Royal Albert Hall and Manchester’s Albert Hall. Their show manifests both sweeping sonic landscapes and moments of fragile intimacy, where one flute line or synth swell can shift the mood deeply.
