Riding a wave of online buzz, DIY dream pop trio Night Tapes set the tone for their next EP with the dreamy new single ‘every day is a game’, out 15th March on Nettwerk Music Group.
The lead single from the upcoming assisted memories EP dropping on June 7th, ‘every day is a game’ is a typically meditative arrangement from Night Tapes, made up of silky smooth basslines, hair-raising chord changes and a dialled-in rhythm section. Lead singer Iiris Vesik’s signature soothing tones soar above the music, soaked in shadowy reverb but bearing unforgettable melodies. “Life is just so good with you”, she sings on a blissed-out chorus, euphoric in its own gentle way.
Speaking about the track’s themes of love and duality, Iiris says: “The romantic idea of relationships that we’ve been taught through stories and movies, is that the other will complete us and when we find them, then we’ll live happily ever after. But what if the aim isn’t for two to become one, but to develop two strong worlds and well-organised communication between the two?”
“We are individually responsible for our own happiness - taking care of our own world and leaving space for the other to take care of theirs”, she adds.
Continuing their hot streak after the stunning early 2024 single ‘loner’, plus a 2023 that included the release of their third EP Perfect Kindness last summer, and a tour of the UK and Europe spanning Vienna, London, Bristol, Brighton, Manchester, Copenhagen, Paris and Tallinn, the trio have been surging in popularity online.
February 2024 was the trio’s biggest month yet, with their Spotify following growing by over 50% to nearly 30k, almost two millions streams for ‘drifting’ as well as support from BBC Radio 1, monthly listeners peaking at over half a million with 1.7m streams, YouTube subscribers racing by 850% to almost 20k, and a newfound presence on TikTok.
Night Tapes started out as evening jams between housemates Max Doohan, Sam Richards and Iiris Vesik in London. Night time London, genre-blending, multi-fidelity recordings and honest reflection contribute to their atmospheric soundscapes that ultimately make for fresh and envelope-pushing dream pop. The trio take inspiration from both their lived experience in the world that they can see and touch, as well as the less tangible spiritual and metaphysical realm.
To date, the band have released three EPs: Dream Forever In Glorious Stereo and Download Spirit, and Perfect Kindness, which was released to acclaim via Nettwerk Music Group last summer. Their debut single ‘Forever’ has reached over seven million plays, and their music has been championed by Turtlenek, Paste Magazine, Pigeons & Planes, DUMMY Magazine, At The Barrier, David Dean Burkhart and Majestic Casual channels.
‘every day is a game’ is another stunning Night Tapes single, continuing a momentous year for the London trio. This is a band on the up.
