Deeply rooted in Buenos Aires' drum and bass underground music scene, the idea behind Catnapp
as a project was conceived during a photoshoot of an alternative Pop band Amparo was part of in
2010, which took place while the mythical party +160 was taking place in Bahrein. This experience
inspired Amparo to fuse 2 of her musical sides (electronic music production and her vocals which until
then she had only been composing pop and folk to sing with her classic guitar at home, and sang
backing vocals with a few bands) and start a new project.
The project’s musical spine has always been fixed in bass music. Fluctuating between -just to mention
a few genres- breakbeat, drum and bass, jungle, dancehall and pop. One of Catnapp’s biggest
motivational forces is to be able to preserve the freedom of bending the boundaries between genres.
Taking the focus off existing inside a box, and shifting it to making what feels good, fun, interesting
and genuine. Besides being very energetic, one of the most distinguishable characteristics of her
music as well as her live act, is that it can be very polarized between cute and scary (maybe even
slightly uncomfortable) from one moment to the other.
For five years Catnapp developed her project in Buenos Aires, performed at numerous festivals such
as Creamfields (main stage) and Primavera Sound, until 2015 when she moved to Berlin, Germany
where she continues to be based until this date.
In Europe she kept evolving and mutating artistically, and created the music label Napp Records with
the focus in supporting new artists providing a safe and fair space where they could release their first
albums, or play a gig in Berlin. She released one of her Eps and 1 single on Napp Records, and
numerous other artists as well. One year later, she was signed to Monkeytown Records
(Modeselektor’s label based in Berlin) where she released plenty of music, and toured opening for
Modeselektor and Moderat.
Catnapp has released 7 Eps, 6 Lps, 4 Remix Albums and many singles. She performed at festivals
and venues such as Berghain (Berlin), Boiler Room (Berlin), Fusion (Berlin), Melt (Berlin), SXSW
(Austin), Sonar (Barcelona), Reeperbahnfestival (Hamburg & Beijing), toured through China, and
many others.
Catnapp is currently recording her upcoming EP which will see the light by end of 2024, followed by
an album in 2025, both characterized by her ever increasing pop energy, drums and bass, breakbeat,
hyper pop and dancehall, still preserving in a crystal box the unfailing goal to give people something
real and tangible they can take home with them.
